Middle School House System

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

Family is not defined just by biology but also, and more importantly, by faith.  The House System at Bishop John Carroll Cathedral School is based on the seven House Virtues.

Faith

Hope

Charity

Fortitude

Justice

Temperance

Prudence

Each House is named for an individual who lived their life according to these virtues and showed us that it is possible to do God's will.  House patrons are: St. Gregory the Great, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Katherine Drexel, St. Albert the Great, and Father Stanley Rother.

There is an overwhelming benefit for all students involved. Mixing students from all middle school grades in each house provides more opportunities for students to interact and work cooperatively with peers from each grade level. Older students act as mentors to our younger students, showing them the "ropes" while exercising their leadership skills.

Houses acquire and compete for points by participating in a variety of activities.  These include activities in the areas of church ministry, community service, BJCCS circle drive duty, academics, contribution to school life, and helping others.  Points are tallied monthly, and high point earners are recognized in each house.

Each week, house members gather together to deepen their faith, to build upon their teamwork skills, and to enrich their community.  Each student is challenged to get out of their comfort zone and embrace new ways to think and work together.  Several speakers are invited to share their mission with the students throughout the course of year.

Our goal is to help our students answer the question, "What is God's will for me?"
